BREAKING: Oregon’s Devon Allen is a fast human being

Earlier this month we highlighted a Michigan signee who is kinda fast. With June hitting its halfway point today, we’ll do the same for a member of the Oregon football program.

Saturday, rising redshirt freshman wide receiver Devon Allen won the NCAA championship in the 110-meter hurdles to give the Ducks their first outdoor men’s title since 1984. Not only that, but Allen’s time of 13.16 was the second fastest in the history of the NCAA.

The only one faster? The 13 flat laid down by Maryland’s Renaldo Nehemiah, the should-have-been gold medalist at the 1980 Olympics who had a cup of coffee or two in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Allen was a four-star member of UO’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 22 receiver in the country and the No. 4 player at any position in the state of Arizona. He took a redshirt as a true freshman this past season.

As The Oregonian points out, Allen “is poised to earn playing time due to a serious knee injury to Bralon Addison.” The Ducks’ leading returning receiver, Addison suffered a torn ACL during spring practice and is expected to miss the entire 2014 season.
