Pair of ‘Huskers arrested in separate incidents

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have doubled up in becoming the latest football program to reset the “Days Without An Arrest” ticker back to double zeroes.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, cornerback Boaz Joseph (pictured) and wide receiver Jariah Tolbert were arrested and charged/cited this past week in connection to unrelated incidents.

Joseph, a redshirt freshman, was cited for theft by unlawful taking, the World-Herald writes, “after a surveillance video allegedly captured him walking by, boarding and riding off on a ‘bait bike’ used by [University of Nebraska-Lincoln] police to curb bike theft.” Joseph may not be the sharpest knife in the chandelier, but he’s certainly one of the laziest. To wit:

The bike, located on the east side of the Canfield Administration building according to the police report, was embedded with a GPS tracking system. According to the report, Joseph allegedly admitted to taking the bike because he didn’t want to walk “to a business in the downtown area.”

After coming to Nebraska as a three-star member of the Cornhuskers’ 2013 recruiting class, Joseph took a redshirt as a true freshman.

Tolbert, on the other hand, was arrested very early Thursday morning and charged with obstructing a police officer, possession of marijuana and possession or use of drug paraphernalia. The details surrounding Tolbert’s arrest show he’s the Dumber to Joseph’s Dumb.

According to UNL Sgt. Dave Dibelka and a police report, officers received a call about someone smoking marijuana at the Vine Street Fields in between two outdoor tennis courts. Two officers went to the scene, and Tolbert allegedly ran. He was tackled shortly after and handcuffed. Dibelka said officers recovered “what is commonly referred to as a blunt” — a hollowed-out Swisher Sweets cigar filled with marijuana.

Tolbert was a two-star member of NU’s 2014 class.

Head coach Bo Pelini is aware of the incidents, the school stated, but no decision on what if any punishment either player may be facing.
