Nearly two months after leaving Florida, Marqui Hawkins has found a new place to ply his football wares.

Hawkins confirmed to Monday that he has decided to continue his playing career at UAB of Conference USA. Because of NCAA transfer rules, Hawkins will be forced to sit out the 2014 season.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2015.

“I just got the call from the staff,” Hawkins told the recruiting website. “They called and said everything is good to go. My transcript has went through. I’ll be arriving there on Thursday and starting summer school. I felt UAB is a place I can play and its close to home.”

Hawkins also stated he received interest from Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Hawkins was a three-star member of the Gators’ 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 50 receiver in the country coming out of high school in Macon, Ga.  He took a redshirt as a true freshman last season.
