Last October, part-time starting cornerback Ian Thomas abruptly announced that he was leaving the Rutgers football team to start a career in baseball or because he was homesick depending on who you listened too. He returned this offseason on a conditional basis and participated in spring practice.
A couple of months later, however, Thomas is again gone.
“Ian did not report back for the summer program,” head coach Kyle Flood said, “and I would just leave it at that.”
Thomas had started three of the six games in which he’s played in 2013 before leaving the first time. He was a three-star member of the Scarlet Knights’ 2012 recruiting class.
