Report: Washington State LB arrested for pellet gun incident

Utah v Washington State

I may not be the smartest person out there, but I do know pointing a gun at a student is not something you should probably be caught doing. Just ask Washington State linebacker Ivan McLennan. McLennan was reportedly arrested earlier this week for just that.

The Spokesman-Review reports McLennan was arrested for “unlawful handling of weapons capable of producing bodily harm after pointing a nonlethal Airsoft pellet gun at a student.” The report cites information form a Pullman police report, which states police received a phone call from a student claiming McLennan was pointing the pellet gun at a student in a parking lot. This apparently was not the first time police confronted McLennan about his pellet gun responsibility either, which escalated the cause for alarm.

A Washington State spokesperson confirmed to College Football Talk McLennan is still on the team. McLennan sat out the 2013 season with a redshirt after transferring from a junior college. He was expected to compete for a significant role on the Washington State defense this year. If convicted to the full extent of the law, McLennan could be looking at just about a year in jail or a $5,000 fine.

30 years ago when I was a youngon and growing up on a farm, this kind of horseplay was normal. I shot my older brother in the eye once while playing cops vs crooks. My mother whipped me although it was merely an accident.

But times have changed and although a college campus is a playground for young adults, probably not the smartest idea to play around like that. Especially since pellet guns look like the real deal now days.

Shouldn’t the word “caught” be removed from the first sentence? Sort’ve implies it’s ok otherwise.

Guess what,,,this nonsense is out of control and by reading the blogs,,,most of you are ok with the gestapo using laws broadly just to arrest somebody.

I can kill you with a fork,,,a steak knife…pair of scissors…a piece of rope,,,zip ties…hell I can kill you with a chunk of dry ice…these cops,,from deputy dog alllll the way up to holder just make crap up so they can prosocute somebody. Just the other day the guy in SF was charged with TEN counts of possesion of dangerous weapons (all felonies) simply for having 10 tracers bullets,,,
Air soft plastic pellet guns are TOYS not deadly weapons

If this is his most serious offense then there isn’t much to worry about, and this is a non-story.

Yeaah, the Pac-Whatever isn’t the SEC, they tend to enforce the law out there.
