BYU Media Day: Possible 2015 schedule change in the works

BYU athletics director Tom Holmoe suggested a scheduling change for 2015 could be possible, but he was reluctant to share too much information regarding future schedules during BYU’s annual football media day.

BYU’s 2015 schedule will be one of the toughest in the nation, and head coach Bronco Mendenhall said it will be toughest schedule he has had. In 2015 the Cougars are scheduled to open the season with three out of four game son the road. It does not help that those road games will be played at Nebraska, at UCLA and at Michigan. The lone home game in that September schedule will be a home date against Boise State.

Holmoe suggested one of the road games on BYU’s schedule in 2015 could be switched, although he was shy on the specifics of the potential scheduling plans. BYU’s other road game sin 2015 are scheduled to be played at Southern Mississippi, San Jose State, UNLV and Utah State. The Southern Mississippi game appears to be a strong candidate for possibly being moved to BYU.

@KevinOnCFB probably going to be Southern Miss game to add a 6th home game.

That seems to make sense, at least for BYU. Southern Mississippi currently has a home game against Mississippi State and road games at Nebraska and Appalachian State on the 2015 schedule, in addition to the currently scheduled home game against BYU. If BYU manages to swap the locations for the Southern Miss game, the Cougars would then get four consecutive home game sin October following a bye week after the brutal September schedule.
