Just the Trickett: WVU names starting QB

Clint Trickett

West Virginia is taking on Alabama in the 2014 season opener, so getting a handle on as much as it can now would be advisable for planning for what should be quite the challenge. On Tuesday West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen named Clint Trickett the starting quarterback for the Mountaineers.

“Clint is 100 percent healthy and is ready to play.” Holgorsen said in a statement released on the school’s team website. “He worked hard last season and showed a lot of ability and leadership and deserves the chance to lead the team as a senior. He will be our starter.”

Trickett appeared in eight games for West Virginian in 2013, starting seven of those games. Last season he completed 123-of-233 pass attempts for 1,605 yards and seven touchdowns. Now that the starting quarterback has been named, West Virginia will hope it leads to some stability on offense. The Mountaineers made a number of changes as the season progressed last season for one reason or another. This also gives Trickett more time to train and prepare with the first team offense in preparing for Alabama’s defense.

West Virginia and Alabama will play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta on August 30.
