Beavers lose receiver to transfer, TE to retirement

Oregon State’s depth in the passing game took twin hits earlier in the week, the Oregonian‘s Gina Mizell reported.

Wide receiver Walter Jones has been granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer to another university. Jones won’t be transferring to another football program, however, as he instead intends to run track at his new school.

On the other end is tight end Tyler Perry (pictured, No. 88), who has decided to retire from the game of football due to myriad injuries.

Both players were expected to be contributors in 2014, the paper noted.

Jones, a three-star member of OSU’s 2013 recruiting class, worked with the second-team offense in spring practice as a rising redshirt freshman. For his career, Perry totaled seven catches for 58 yards in the 16 games in which he played.

On his updated bio for 2014, the school wrote that “Tyler will be trying to make it through an entire fall camp without injury for the first time in his career.”
