Gophers losing DE Salzwedel to transfer

Owen Salzwedel

A promising member of Minnesota’s defensive line, expected to be a part of the rotation this year, has decided to leave the football program.

GopherIllustarted.com was the first to report yesterday that Owen Salzwedel has decided to leave the Gophers. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune subsequently confirmed the report.

The stated reason for the departure is so that the defensive end could transfer and play for another football program closer to his hometown of Beaver Dam, Wisc. Salzwedel had an offer from Wisconsin coming out of high school before signing with the Gophers.

Salzwedel was a three-star member of the 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 8 player at any position in the state of Wisconsin. He took a redshirt his true freshman season.
