Miss. St. down a TE after departure

Thanks to a glut of talent at the tight end position at Mississippi State, one member of that unit has decided to move on in an apparent search for a better opportunity at playing time.

Multiple media outlets reported earlier today that Artimas Samuel is no longer a member of the Bulldogs football team. It’s unknown why the Georgia native left the program or where he may be headed.

From the Starkville Daily News:

The Bulldogs will still have depth at the tight end position even with Samuel not on the roster. MSU has seniors Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Hill, sophomore Gus Walley and redshirt freshman B.J. Hammond at tight end. They also welcome junior college transfer Darrion Hutcherson into the fold.

Last season, Samuel played in seven games and caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Samuel was a three-star member of the Bulldogs’ 2012 recruiting class. He picked MSU over offers from, among others, Alabama, Auburn Arkansas, Clemson, LSU, Miami, South Carolina and USC.
