Photo: Big 12 to unveil new logo

Bored students during lesson

Yep, we are neck-deep into what seems like an abnormally long and interminable offseason.  The latest example of that?  This post.

Friday night, the Big 12 conference wrote on its Twitter account that “[t]he #Big12 will officially update its logo on July 1 – next Tuesday. Get ready for a great new look! #OneTrueChampion.”

So, of course, the conference itself scooped its official unveiling by posting a photo of its new logo along with the tweet.

For those who are not yet asleep and/or comatose, here it is:

New Big 12 Logo

And, for those who are not yet asleep and/or comatose and would like to see how the new logo compares to the old one, here it is:

So, there ya go. That’s all I have. Do with it what you will.

And, on a completely unrelated note, it’s exactly 61 days until Abilene Christian travels to Georgia State to officially kick-off the FBS portion of the 2014 season and 62 days until South Carolina hosts Texas A&M in the first Power Five game of the new college football year.

You mean they’re unveiling the logo everyone has seen for months on every new turf design, helmet, jersey and other gear schools have introduced in the last few months??

In the age of realignment, having any number in the conference name is a really bad idea.

The B1G figured this out after basically go two decades with an 11 team conference named the BIG10. But should they get credit for knowing how to count? After all, their network is still called the “BTN” for, you guessed it, the Big Ten Network.

Either way, if the BIG12 manages to come up with a new name by around 2025, they will have beaten the B1G by several years at learning how to do a head count at conference meetings.

Now all they’ve got to do is get two more schools to join.

Just time to add 2 extra teams.

If they don’t want a powerhouse, they might as well add BYU and UTEP. At least UTEP brings some academic prestige. The tv market in El Paso is pretty large.

Very nice. Glad it’s on the WVU field and not Louisville’s.

For the record, the B1G couldn’t change their name to the Big 14 if they wanted to.. Big 12 got the rights to that when they formed the league, incase they decided to add two more members.
