Texas Tech dismisses CB Bethel after allegedly punching women’s basketball player

There are a few simple rules most people should follow in life. One of them is to not punch a woman. If reports are accurate, one Texas Tech freshman cornerback found out the hard way some of the consequences for doing just that.

Nigel Bethel II has been dismissed by Texas Tech following reports surfacing of an alleged attack on a woman, a Texas Tech women’s basketball player, according to Bruce Feldman of FOXSports.com.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports Bethel II punched Amber Battle, a member of the women’s basketball team. Battle was allegedly hit in the face by Bethel II during a basketball game, and the injury is expected to send the women’s basketball player to the hospital for surgery. Texas Tech confirmed there was an incident at the school’s recreation center between two student-athletes and campus authorities are gathering information about the incident.

Bethel was a four-star recruit out of Miami in Texas Tech’s Class of 2014. He was expected to be a player capable of having an early impact on Texas Tech’s defense, so his dismissal does not exactly fly under the radar.
