Report: Touted 2014 signee contemplating transfer from Irish

Nile Sykes

On campus for just a handful of weeks, Nile Sykes could see his stay in South Bend be a short one.

With rumors swirling throughout the day that Sykes had left the Notre Dame football team and would transfer, the 2014 signee attempted to brush back at least a portion of the speculation by tweeting he is “still currently a Notre Dame student.” The Chicago Tribune, however, wrote that “[m]ultiple sources confirmed to the Tribune that Sykes is contemplating a transfer. One source said the reason is not academic but that Sykes is seeking a school that is a better fit.”

To where the Illinois native would be looking to transfer is unknown, although coming out of high school he had offers from, among others, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Purdue and Syracuse.

A Notre Dame official politely declined to comment on Sykes’ status with the program. If Sykes has started classes, he would (likely) be forced to sit out the 2014 season if he transfers to another FBS school.

A three-star member of the Irish’s 2014 recruiting class, Sykes was rated as the No. 20 inside linebacker in the country.  Only three players on the defensive side of the ball in ND’s class this year carried a higher rating than Sykes.

Forget the cold ice snow and all that goes with it Nile. Just think for a moment. Sunny skies girls in bikinis surf sand and a great education. Others have left South Bend and found out that there is life after finding out how sweet it is. Where you ask? Non other than being a Bruin at UCLA. So Nile we are eager to have you join us. Once a Bruin always a Bruin.

They young man found out that they mean it at ND when they say “STUDENT-athlete”; he wasn’t into the student part.

Attending classes, in courses that require study and attention, did not fit into the mentality of a jock.

These two comments reflect anomosity over the fact that the young man has changed his mind. He has a 3.5 GPA coming out of high school so I think he’s pretty much aced the “student-athlete role before getting to ND…

Montini Catholic is no joke as a school, not like he came from a CPS diploma mill. Take the grade stuff elsewhere.

Would you really want to play for that ego maniac Kelly? The golden dome lost it’s luster when they bailed out on Ty Willingham……they’ve went from bad to worse with the whale and now the ego.
