Buckeyes’ Devin Smith OK after flipping car, slamming into utility pole

There are days when we as human beings should count our blessings. For one member of the Ohio State football program, and from the sound of it, this is one of those days.

The Canton Repository reported this morning that Buckeyes wide receiver Devin Smith was involved in a one-car accident over the weekend. The accident, which occurred at 8:30 a.m., occurred when Smith’s vehicle left the road, eventually flipping and slamming into a utility pole.

There was no indication that Smith suffered any injuries as a result of the accident, although his vehicle had to be towed from the scene. From the Repository:

The traffic report indicates alcohol was suspected in the crash. Smith’s blood was tested and the results showed that he was under the legal limit, according Chief Mark Brink. The accident remains under investigation.

Smith is expected to be cited for failure to control, although he’s certainly grateful the end result wasn’t much, much worse.

Smith’s 44 receptions for 660 yards and eight touchdowns were all good for second on the team. With Philly Brown’s departure, Smith is easily the Buckeyes’ leading returning receiver.
