Clemson tweaks South Carolina in tweet

When it comes to the Clemson-South Carolina rivalry, there’s little love lost between the two football programs. Hell, even the coaches get in on the action as both Steve Spurrier and Dabo Swinney lobbed verbal jabs at their respective rivals earlier this year after bowl games in which they didn’t even face each other.

One high school coach went so far as to suggest a rasslin’ match between the coaches.

In that vein, one side of the rivalry took to social media Thursday afternoon to suplex the other. In a tweet posted to the Clemson football team’s official Twitter account, the folks in charge of the account decided to remind folks of the fact that the Tigers were the only team in the state of South Carolina to win a BCS bowl this past season.

That post is 100-percent accurate. There’s no doubt about it.

Clemson beat Ohio State 40-35 in the Orange Bowl while South Carolina didn’t even qualify for a BCS bowl, having to settle instead for a ten-point win over Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl. And, yep, the Gamecocks went without a BCS bid in the 16-year history of the old system.

What was left unsaid, unlike the clock in the Tigers’ football facilities, is the fact that the Tigers have lost five straight to the Gamecocks and haven’t beaten their bitter rivals since way back in 2008.

(Writer’s note: to be fair, Clemson leads the all-time series 65-42-4)

It was a nice attempt at a backhanded shot, but Clemson should worry more about beating South Carolina on the field than tweaking them off of it.
