Idaho adds ex-UMass HC Molnar to coaching staff

Nearly seven months after getting his head-coaching knees lopped off, Charley Molnar has landed on his assistant-coaching feet.

The Idaho Vandals announced via a press release Wednesday that Molnar has been hired as the wide receivers coach for first-year head coach Paul Petrino. It will mark Molnar’s first stint as a receivers coach since his time at Cincinnati from 2007-09.

“Getting Charley to join are staff was a home run for us,” the brother of Bobby Petrino said in a statement. “He has been one of the best offensive minds in college football. He is a great teacher of technique and details of his position.”

The day after Christmas last year, Molnar was fired as UMass’ head coach after posting a 2-22 record during his two seasons. Molnar came to the Minutemen after spending 2010 and 2011 as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame.
