Potential starter at LB won’t enroll at Ariz. St.

Darrius Caldwell

One of Todd Graham‘s newcomers on the defensive side of the ball expected to make an immediate impact won’t be making any impact at all, as it turns out.

According to a report from the Arizona Republic, linebacker Darrius Caldwell will not be enrolling at Arizona State as scheduled and won’t play for the Sun Devils this season.  As you may have guessed, academics was the reason behind the change of course.

The 6-6, 230-pound Caldwell transferred to the Sun Devils from the JUCO ranke earlier this offseason.  Coming out of high school in 2011 Caldwell signed with Illinois, but failed to qualify academically as well.  He was a three-star member of that class.

Entering summer camp, Caldwell was being looked upon as a likely starter.

Failing to qualify academically at ASU is equivalent to being unable to tie your own shoes.
