Report: Okla. St. under NCAA investigation

SI OSU Cover

Well hello Mr. Probe.  It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen you out and about.

Over the weekend, we noted that an Oklahoma State booster named in Sports Illustrated‘s “exposé”  on the Cowboys football program last year was filing a lawsuit against the magazine.  Coincidentally or not, the story is back in the headlines once again.

An OSU official confirmed to Brett McMurphy of that the school’s football program is currently under investigation by the NCAA because of some of the claims made in the five-part series.  That “exposé,” in part, alleged illicit payments to players and drug use and hostess sex with recruits as well as academic fraud.

Several holes were subsequently poked in the piece, even as dozens of former players and individuals associated with the Cowboys went on the record.

“The inquiry continues and it is hoped that it will conclude within the next few months,” the spokesman told the website. “The university anticipates releasing a report after the NCAA concludes its process. Since it is an ongoing inquiry conducted in cooperation with the NCAA, the university is unable to comment further at this time.”

In the days after the release of the story, OSU announced that it would be launching an internal investigation that was to be headed by a former NCAA enforcement official.  At the time, the university made it clear there was no implication that “any current coaches or players to have direct involvement in any alleged misconduct.”

Didn’t everything mentioned in the SI story allegedly happen under Les Miles? Statute of limitations, etc?

“Didn’t everything mentioned in the SI story allegedly happen under Les Miles?”

Actually…no. Go back and read the article ad nauseum. Innuendos were made, suppositions heralded, and mud slung, but many of the so called “revelations” were simply non facts generated by so called “sports journalists”.

Yeah, I don’t recall thinking OSU had anything to worry about. Only having Trooper Taylor on staff for a single year doesn’t seem like long enough to warrant an SI cover story on NCAA violations.

I noticed following words in this post:

Followed by mentioning of several holes….

Am I just a dirty scum bag or is Mr. Taylor being clever…
