Troll Tide: ‘Bama flag flown at Kyle Field; worker reportedly fired

cd0ymzcznguwzdbhnduynddiytjhm2yyzthlmtjjotqwyyznpwiyntllmwyzy2izogziowy4mzy4ywm0nzdjzwu5mdjh AP

Yeah, this probably won’t go over well in just about every corner of College Station.

The home of the Texas A&M Aggies, Kyle Field, is in the midst of a mammoth renovation project that will push its capacity from 82,539 (No. 17 nationally) to 106,511 (No. 3).  Given the size and scope of the work being done, there are thousands of workers on the site.

And, based on one photograph, at least one of them is an Alabama fan.  Or has a twisted sense of humor.

From SBNation.com‘s Doug Keegan:

Ouch.  And pretty damn funny too.

That said, you can rest easy, Aggie fans, as ESPN.com writes that “[t]he picture was taken over the weekend and we’re told the Alabama flag has since been taken down.”

So, that’s that.

UPDATED 4:19 p.m. ET: According to FOXSports.com, the crane operator responsible for the prank was fired from his job.  That might be a bit of an overkill reaction by whoever was responsible for the man’s firing.

    Not a bad prank.

  2. rolltide510 says: Jul 14, 2014 2:39 PM

Remember back when there was another good team in the state of Texas, so A&M could have an in-state rival and didn’t need Bama?

  3. cubano76 says: Jul 14, 2014 2:41 PM

    That’s a pretty good one.

  4. Hard On For Harden says: Jul 14, 2014 2:49 PM

Remember back when Alabama didn’t have some weird obsession for a Big 12 school it shares little ties with all because a bunch of people on the internet speculated said school may hire Nick Saban?

  5. Deb says: Jul 14, 2014 3:09 PM

    Hard on …

Speaking of weird, that was a weird and bizarre stretch for a comment. Saban was never going anywhere except in your heads, and the only thing Texas means to us is a tick on our list of championships. If anyone’s been obsessed, it was the Longhorns with our coach. Old news. Yawn.

  6. tgaustin says: Jul 14, 2014 3:32 PM

Remember when A&M won that national title?? Yeah, me neither. Hey Debbie, do you know what the Longhorns all time record is against your school? I mean Alabama in this case, Deb.

  7. thefiesty1 says: Jul 14, 2014 3:36 PM

TAMU remains nothing more than an AGGIE joke. It’s their destiny. Big 12 schools have all the conference members flags flying in their stadiums. Somebody needs to get over themselves.

  8. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 14, 2014 3:46 PM

    Nice prank.

  9. Hard On For Harden says: Jul 14, 2014 4:02 PM

Gee Deb, it’s really not that bizarre considering I have no other idea why you would care about a Big 12 school that has nothing to do with you. Note my use of “people on the internet” to illustrate that only a small delusional few thought Saban was coming, but way to paint the entire fan base with broad strokes. That prestigious degree from Misaouri has done wonders for your comprehension skills.

Honey, the only folks who think we Bama fans care about Texas are you and a few other sad, silly Longhorn fans. This article is about someone putting a Tide flag on the construction site of the new A&M stadium–and A&M is an SEC school. The only people on the thread inserting that Big 12 school into the conversation are sad, silly Texas fans who always think everything’s about them.

  12. Deb says: Jul 14, 2014 5:43 PM

    tgaustin …

As, I just posted to the other dimwit, this discussion is about a Tide flag on A&M’s construction site. It has nothing to do with any Big 12 school, except in your little pea brains. I don’t care about Texas’s win/loss record against Alabama. As I’ve been trying to convey–but you, the Reading-Comprehension Genius, don’t seem to grasp–we Alabama fans don’t care about Texas other than as another trophy in the case.

  13. billf7095 says: Jul 14, 2014 5:48 PM

Its gotta be absolutely brutal to be a Bama fan, because every time there is a humorous/ pathetic story about college football fan it involves Bama.

    1. That horrible nut that killed the trees at Auburn. His son was named “Bear” and wanted to name his daughter “Ally Bama”.

    2. Phyllis from Malga

    3. Bama fan that gets in a fight with OU fan at the Sugar Bowl and then proudly tells everyone that she wasn’t drunk.

    4. Now, crane operator without a brain.

It must be so difficult to be an Alabama alum because I am sure that none of the people mentioned above graduated from the University.

I think they should hang a marijuana leaf flag at every D1 stadium. That would be so cool.

  22. ducksk says: Jul 15, 2014 12:28 AM

  23. tide4life says: Jul 15, 2014 7:57 AM

Jeez. Somebody at TAMU wins the 2014 Butthurt Award, and the season ain’t even started.

  24. Deb says: Jul 15, 2014 1:41 PM

    houndofthebaskervols,

glad you, cubano76, mikefoxtrottango, goodfieldnohit, etc., still have your humor chips about an innocent flag prank. Some of these other guys scare me.

  25. Stephanie says: Jul 15, 2014 3:12 PM

The funny thing is that A&M and Bama aren’t much different in terms of fanbase. The most obnoxious portions of the fanbase didn’t actually go to the school… and probably didn’t go to high school either. So there’s that.

  26. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 15, 2014 4:05 PM

@Stephanie, as insulting as that comment was, it was ironically quite on point. The guy who hung the flag was not a Bama grad. Not sure if he was a high school grad or not.

  27. Stephanie says: Jul 15, 2014 4:11 PM

The only people who should be insulted are the obnoxious asses. Although, if I were an Aggie, I would NOT want to be compared to Alabama. I’ll give you that much.

  28. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 15, 2014 6:40 PM

You folks should check out this guy’s Facebook page. It seems that he’s been boasting about sabotaging the structural integrity of the stadium. It won’t surprise me to see this guy end up doing time (again)…

  29. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 15, 2014 6:52 PM

  30. Deb says: Jul 15, 2014 7:06 PM

Oh good grief. All fan bases have their share of obnoxious idiots–who did or didn’t go to the university. But what makes Bama’s obnoxious idiots feel compelled to post their stupidity on Facebook or announce it on radio shows? SMH

  31. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 15, 2014 10:28 PM

    @goodfieldnohit

I’m sure the guy was BSing in that post, but does due diligence require they go back and check everything that guy has done since being on the work site?

  32. Deb says: Jul 15, 2014 10:52 PM

I’d have thought Updyke was BSing when he called a radio show to brag about poisoning trees. But he wasn’t. This guy probably is BSing, but how stupid is that in a post-Updyke world? He’s already cost himself this job and perhaps made himself unemployable in the construction industry. What an idiot.

  33. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 16, 2014 7:58 AM

John Taylor – Do you still think it’s overkill that this nutbag was fired?

  34. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 16, 2014 10:05 AM

Again, I have trouble believing that anyone would be stupid enough to actually sabotage a construction project that big due to a conference rivalry, but if he actually did do a poor job “on purpose” it’s almost criminal.

  35. rolltide510 says: Jul 16, 2014 11:57 AM

    8to80texansblog,

Sadly, you know little of the Gump. I’m 100% positive he did exactly what he said he did.

  36. cometkazie says: Jul 16, 2014 12:51 PM

If he did indeed attempt to sabotage, his foreman didn’t follow up on the work and I believe construction of a facility like this requires inspections by a competent authority periodically.

    Just thinking.

  37. Deb says: Jul 16, 2014 1:03 PM

    8to80 …

I don’t think it would be “almost” criminal. Guy would probably be looking at some jail time.

Yes, cometkazie, you would have inspectors checking the work. But at what intervals?

As a lifelong Bama fan, all I can say is WHY, WHY does this handful of morons keep embarrassing us? Most of us really are sane, rational people.

  38. cometkazie says: Jul 16, 2014 1:18 PM

The only construction projects I was involved even peripherally with were the chem plant I worked at and its expansions. There we had company personnel watching over their shoulders. They didn’t pour concrete one day as it was too cold.

I guess supervision would depend on the job and the contractors.

  39. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 16, 2014 4:06 PM

I do have to say though, comparing the Kyle Field project with the Houston Stadium project…. Kyle field looks way behind and seems to be a stretch that it will be ready in less than 2 months.

    UH already has turf down…

“It must be so difficult to be an Alabama alum because I am sure that none of the people mentioned above graduated from the University.”

    LOL…. 3 national championships in the last 5 years and the best recruiting classes as well. No, the only sad Alums are Longhorns because you’re still pissed because;

    1) You still can’t deal with the lost championship of 2009 at the hands of a program you look down on.

    2) You are/were utterly embarrassed that the line of candidates to take the head coaching gig after Brown’s FORCED exit was non existent. The mighty UT with all its arrogance sweated the notion that NO elite coach would take the job.

Lastly, the inclusion of the “Bama fan that left his son in a hot car” is just proof that people will just stoop to the lowest to try and make their opinion valid. The fact that he’s a Bama grad has NOTHING to do with the University or the fan base. If you took time to pull your head from between your butt cheeks you would know that the majority of BAMA fans find his actions appauling and want to see justice for that child.

  43. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 17, 2014 11:28 AM

What’s odd to me is how a story about A&M became a pissing match between Bama and Texas….

  44. dhardy8207 says: Jul 17, 2014 12:47 PM

^^^Because UT fans can’t help themselves. Bama fans are here because Bama’s flag was mentioned. UT fans are here because anything about aTm offends them. Despite aTm has left the conference that the Longhorns still try to dominate (notice the word “TRY”) they still have to inject themselves into the conversation.

They can carry on with the mantra “we’re not concerned about aTm” but their constant need to post derrogatory content on an aTm thread says otherwise…

Speaking of A&M, I’m REALLY surprised that CFT doesn’t have the story about A&M purchasing the insurance policy for Cedric Ogbeuhi so that he would return for his SR year.

Ramifications could be huge throughout CFB…

  48. kosarkid says: Jul 18, 2014 8:38 AM

Unless putting that flag there was some sort of safety violation, they shouldn’t have fired him. Most schools hang all of the flags of other schools in their conference anyway. My best guess is that if A&M does hang the other teams flags after the stadium’s built then this guy will be getting a pretty good check from his former employer.

  49. jfkelly1 says: Jul 19, 2014 12:08 AM

For all who think this is a “harmless prank”, see Bobby’ s Facebook page where he admits to trying to sabotage the work he did. Harmless, …pretty funny prank!

  50. tnfire69 says: Jul 19, 2014 9:37 PM

No hanging the Bama flag a very funny & harmless prank. However, not doing your job, in mean in a project this size if its true he deserved to be fired.

Deb says: “the only thing Texas means to us is a tick on our list of championships.”……that were all bought and paid for. Do your “student” athletes even copy the test material from the answer key to their own test; or are they too stupid to even do that?

Deb says: “As a lifelong Bama fan, all I can say is WHY, WHY does this handful of morons keep embarrassing us? Most of us really are sane, rational people.”

Because most of the $ECheat ARE a bunch of morons. $ECheat is the most sought after conference to get ones GED. But thanks for keeping a lot of good reading material for the rest of us in the Local section of our newspapers!

  53. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 21, 2014 2:35 PM

Dude… you need a new outlet to release this insane jealousy you have for the SEC. Because your antics and tired “$ECheat” references are getting old and overused.

Time to go back to the drawing board and get some new material…. Maybe something original…

  54. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 21, 2014 3:16 PM

You apparently have a new crazy fan to deal with…. Check out the thread on PFT about the Bama fan who yelled “Roll Tide” and then his friend sucker punched Zach Mettenberger.

  55. packerbadger says: Jul 21, 2014 4:45 PM

Hey 8to8…. its the $ECheat idiot ret@rds that keep getting into the news. They prove my comments right! Big 10 has its problems here and there…..buy these guys are on a bi-daily basis…at least! Jealousy over the $ECheat?!?! Please, give me a break. How could I be jealous over a bunch of uneducated morons who’s only skill in life is to either run, catch or throw a ball. Wisconsin does quite well in sports; AND, the athletes there get one of the best educations out there.
