Just two weeks before the start of summer camp, an already-thin Pittsburgh defensive line has suffered yet another blow.
The school announced Ejuan Price (pictured, No. 5)will undergo a season-ending medical procedure as early as today. The defensive lineman suffered torn pectoral during a workout earlier this week.
“We are incredibly disappointed for Ejuan,” head coach Paul Chryst said in a statement. “We will do everything we can to help him stay encouraged and focused through this challenge.”
The pectoral tear continues a string of bad injury luck for the redshirt junior.
Last season, Price, who originally signed with Ohio State in 2011 before being released from his scholarship, played in the first six games -- starting four of those contests -- before going down with what proved to be a season-ending back injury. In 2012, after playing in 13 games as a true freshman, he missed the entire season with, again, a pectoral injury.
He was set to enter summer camp as the likely starter at one defensive end spot.
Because he will have missed two entire seasons to injury, Price would likely be eligible for a medical hardship waiver that would grant him a sixth season of eligibility for the 2016 season.
