Clemson’s Chad Morris enjoying life with Tigers

Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris is one of the top assistant coaches in the country. He likely could have his pick of head coaching jobs, but the right one has not come along just yet. More importantly, Morris appears to be quite happy right where he is with the Tigers.

“There’s been a few along the way, but they haven’t been it,” Morris said to The Charlotte Observer. “The thing that we have is the family atmosphere and my family loves it here.”

There is something to be said about one of the top coordinators in the country saying he feels like a part of a family. Of course, what would you expect him to say? It also helps that Morris is the nation’s highest paid assistant coach, earning $1.3 million. Clemson has made it a point to keep head coach Dabo Swinney happy, and that means making a financial commitment to the assistant coaching staff as well. Unity is much easier to achieve when the coaching staff is taken care of.

Morris is also aware of the risk of leaving a solid coordinator job if the head coaching opportunity is not the best situation. Fortunately for Clemson, not too many options out there look more attractive than the offensive coordinator job with its program right now.

“People look at me like I’ve got three eyes when I tell them I don’t want my first one to be my last one,” Morris said. “If I do leave, I want everybody to sit here and say, ‘Wow. Thanks. We wish you the best. Can’t blame you.’”

If Clemson has another successful season on offense despite losing Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins, expect Morris to be a trendy name in the next round of the coaching carousel.
