It’s official; Comcast adds SEC Network

Word started to spread yesterday as SEC Media days drew to a close, but the week has one last big announcement coming out of the SEC. The SEC Network has officially been added to the Comcast line-up for the 2014 season.

Awful Announcing gave us our first hint that an announcement was imminent, and a separate deal with DirecTV may not be far behind. Today the SEC Network formally announced the new deal that will bring the conference’s cable network into the homes of Comcast subscribers. Naturally, word broke on Twitter.

“We are extremely pleased to have reached this agreement with ESPN to deliver the SEC Network to Xfinity TV customers on multiple platforms,” said Matt Strauss, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Video Services, Comcast Cable. “Whether in the home or on the go, Xfinity TV customers will be able to watch their favorite Southeastern Conference teams in more ways than ever before.” According to the joint press release, the SEC Network will be made available to 46 million households through all existing partnerships in place. DirecTV will give that audience total a boost as well. It may just be a matter of when the announcement is planned to be announced at this point. Bruce Feldman of FOXSports.com had one idea...
