With just days before Big 12 media days get started next week, Texas has a bit of good news regarding one of its top offensive players. Running back Johnathan Gray has received medical clearance to resume workouts. Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com was first to report the good news out of Austin via Twitter.
According to Fowler, Gray has been working out for a while now but this latest development will allow him to try to do more regular workouts without holding back as much. Gray saw his 2013 season come to an end last season when he tore his right achilles in an overtime win against West Virginia in November. He rushed for 780 yards and four touchdowns. Both were good for second on the Longhorns in 2013, with Malcolm Brown leading the team in both rushing categories.
Both Gray and Brown appear on the Doak Walker Award watch list. The two should make for a steady running game at Texas this season.
