Idaho dismisses leading receiver in wake of drunk-driving charge

Well, this certainly won’t help Idaho’s transition from brief football independence to conference play in the Sun Belt.

Back in April, Idaho wide receiver Dezmon Epps was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Three months later? Epps has been, per Dave Southorn of the Idaho Statesman, dismissed from the football program.

The arrest and subsequent charge weren’t mentioned in the school’s official release, with the Vandals chalking up the parting of ways to the standard violation of unspecified team rules.

Regardless of the specific reason behind it, the loss of Epps is a huge one for Paul Petrino‘s Idaho offense.

Last season, Epps’ 79 receptions for 980 yards and four touchdowns were easily tops on the team. Next up? Najee Lovett, whose 35-429-1 stat line now makes the 2013 JUCO transfer the Vandals’ leading returning receiver.
