Former K-State O-lineman lands at North Texas

A few months after deciding to leave Kansas State, it appears Aderius Epps has found himself a new college football home.

While North Texas has yet to announce his addition to the roster, Epps confirmed to the Denton Chronicle that he will continue his playing career with the Mean Green. The Dallas high school product said a family health issue played a significant role in his decision to transfer to UNT.

“The main factor is family,” Epps told the Chronicle. “My sister [Destiny Epps] is on top of the heart transplant list in the Dallas area. She is 25 and has congestive heart failure. I felt like I need to be closer to my family and want to have them be able to come see me play. My family are my biggest fans. I wanted them to be able to see me in action just like they did in high school.”

Because of that family health issue, Epps will be filing an appeal for a waiver that would grant him immediate eligibility. If granted, he’d have three years of eligibility remaining.

If he’s forced to sit out the 2014 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, he’s have two years remaining beginning in 2015.

After redshirting his true freshman season, Epps played in two games for the Wildcats in 2013. Epps was a three-star member of KSU’s 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 46 guard in the country.
