Florida CB Hargreaves carted off at practice

Kelvin Benjamin, Vernon Hargreaves III

The Florida Gators saw some hot tempers flaring in a Thursday night practice, and it may have been costly. As fights were broken up during a tackling drill, star defensive back Vernon Hargreaves was limping out of the dust-up and had to be carted off the practice field.

Florida fans are now holding their collective breath right about now.

Hargreaves led the Gators in 2013 with three interceptions and he broke up 11 passes. He also saw some limited special teams duties, but his role on the team had clearly been found on defense, and he figured to be one of the top defensive performers on the Gators this season. Of course, that may still be the case as we do not know the status of the injury at this time.

Hargreaves was named to the preseason All-SEC First Team Defense.

    Big Nole fan here, but I really like Hargreaves and his play.

    Hope it’s not serious.

    They are just following in Hernandez’ footsteps…they wanna be gangsta’s.

    This shouldn’t be too surprising though. They were flagged for a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after plays. The year before too. They are undisciplined and don’t care if their actions after the play hurt their team.

    All that being said, I hope it’s nothing serious for the kid. It would be a shame if he were lost for the season over something like this.

    That kid is the son of one of the best college football coaches around. He’s not a thug, he’s a good kid who love and plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played. Hope he’s ok.

    Hernandez was obviously a true gangsta. No wanna be about that man.

    I’ve been a Nole since I went to FSU in the early ’70s. Even so, I hate to hear of any injury to any kid who’s trying to make his or her way through college playing a sport – even if it IS a Gator. So many of my friends and family went to UofF.

    Good news is he is ok with a bone bruise, he is day to day but still a scary moment from a leader on the secondary who is just a rising sophomore not to mention a kid who has it together on and off the field.

    @kaspauf

    Thats great news! Hopefully you guys are 100% when we smash you’ll this year.

    The article left out that it wasn’t just a normal camp fight–gator reporters state that it was a brawl between 25-30 players.

    Just embarrassing. I hope he gets better soon!
