Michigan unveils new ‘Under the Lights’ alternate uniforms

Don’t mess with the classics.

It’s a cliche that falls on deaf ears when it comes to college football and uniform changes.

The Michigan Wolverines have dabbled with alternate uniforms in the past (remember THESE?), but the program decided it needed a new version for its Oct. 11 meeting with the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The team unveiled its new “Under the Lights” alternate uniforms Friday night. Take a look…

Whether Michigan fans or cranky sportswriters actually like these new uniforms is completely inconsequential. It’s all about the team, its players and potential recruits. And by the looks of it, Michigan’s players absolutely love the new threads…

it’s funny how Michigan sees something as benign as fireworks as a threat to their tradition, but jumping on the lame, alternate uniform trend? no problem

Those who stay will wear Venetian Blinds.

Are they going to be directing traffic after the game?

How cute. My 7-year olds soccer team has the identical jerseys.

Hoke was originally going to model them, but looked too much like the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka.

Peanut gallery aside, like these a lot. Nothing too crazy, just crisp and simple. Wish if waiting for this jersey instead of last years.

Anything (and they are ugly) to get fans to buy yet another jersey. Guess they don’t make enough money off the alumni

Haha. Too bad they don’t have a two-time to veto stupid decisions like this.

Those older ones in the link with the big M are 10 times better than these.

You would think to recruits things like coaching, facilities, and tradition would be all that matters instead of being able to play dress up.

The all blue isnt bad. Lose the giant, patterned numbers and add some yellow lines and theyd look good.

anc713, very good point, but it seems like the reality (and this reaction proves it) is that uniforms really do matter to the players and recruits. The middle ground might be to adapt to player preference while not abandoning tradition. Seems like Michigan was trying to do that here.

Somebody tell lil Davey Brandon that kids today don’t even know what a “horizontal hold” adjustment knob is for, much less how the adjust the picture to compensate for those jerseys.

I like alternate jersey I have no problem with them. I wish that Michigan would have amaze alternate jersey I think that would be awesome if they did. 11 years ago Nike had Michigan amaze jersey more just for sale it was awesome I bought amaze jersey. Pretty much it’s for the players and recruits with the alternate jerseys and also there is a market for it as well otherwise you wouldn’t be seeing alternate jerseys if there isn’t a market for it.
