Earlier this week it was reported that Michigan wide receiver Csont’e York had been indefinitely suspended because he was part of a police investigation.
Friday, the reason behind the suspension came a little bit more into focus.
According to multiple media outlets, York will be charged with three misdemeanors: one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault or assault and battery. The specifics of the charges, filed Friday in Ann Arbor’s 15th District Court, have yet to be detailed.
The incident that led to the charges occurred July 18 of this year. An arraignment for York is scheduled for Aug. 22, eight days before the Wolverines’ opener against Appalachian State.
“Csont’e York is suspended indefinitely for failing to meet team standards and will not report for fall camp,” UM head coach Brady Hoke said a couple of days ago in a statement. “We demand that every person in our program represent the University of Michigan and the Michigan football program the right way on and off the field. When people fall short of that, there are consequences.”
UM has had no comment on this most recent development.
York, a three-star member of UM’s 2013 recruiting class, played in one game as a true freshman last season. He was expected to see an increased role in the offense in 2014.
