Pelini confirms Rose-Ivey out for all of 2014

Unfortunately for Nebraska, the latest round of bad news has been confirmed.

Following practice Saturday, head coach Bo Pelini confirmed that Michael Rose-Ivey will be lost for the season after suffering a knee injury. The linebacker took to social media late last night to announce that the injury he incurred was likely of the season-ending variety.

“Our team morale is fine, I feel for those kids,” Pelini said in quotes distributed by the school. “As far us going forward, we have a lot of good players and a lot of good competition. We will be fine.”

Last season as a redshirt freshman, Rose-Ivey started seven of the 12 games in which he played. He set an NU freshman record with 66 tackles, which were tied for third on the team, while six of those tackles were for losses.

Exiting spring and entering summer camp, Rose-Ivey was expected to be the full-time starter at middle linebacker.

Rose-Ivey’s injury is the latest issue to slam headfirst into NU’s defense over the past couple of days.

Friday it was reported that the Cornhuskers’ top nickel cornerback, Charles Jackson, would miss all of the upcoming season with a serious knee injury. Later on in the day, NU announced that another starting defensive back, LeRoy Alexander, had been suspended for the entire 2014 season.
