When it comes to Jalen Ramsey and Jimbo Fisher, it’s all good.
Sunday, the Florida State head coach very publicly gave the starting defensive back the boot from practice for several hard hits on his offensive teammates -- including reigning Heisman winner Jameis Winston. Afterwards, Fisher verbally eviscerated Ramsey.
“I’m very upset with him,” said Fisher. “It’s lack of leadership. It’s lack of character. He’ll decide if he wants to play at Florida State.”
“I told him not to do something and he defied me,” Fisher added.
The next day, Ramsey was back at practice. And Fisher had significantly softened his comments on the kerfuffle.
“We had a great talk,” said Fisher. “He’s a leader. When you lose him, you change the team. I want him to understand that too. I love his competitiveness, (but) sometimes you just have to harness it.”
To his credit, Fisher also acknowledged that it might not have been the best idea to address the issue with the media while he was still upset over the situation. “Maybe I shouldn’t have walked over and said anything to y’all,” Fisher told the media following Monday’s practice.
Ramsey started all 14 games for the Seminoles as a true freshman during FSU’s run to the BCS title in 2013. He started the first three games at cornerback -- the first true freshman at FSU to start at corner since Deion Sanders in 1985 -- before moving to safety due to a season-ending neck injury to starter Tyler Hunter.
