Late last month it was reported that Ruben Ibarra would be transferring from Purdue to Arizona State.
A couple of weeks later? Never mind.
Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic tweeted Wednesday that the linebacker “will not join the team after all.” No reason was given for the abrupt about-face, nor is there any word on where, if any place, Ibarra will head to finish out his collegiate career.
FOXSports.com wrote that Ibarra “had been awaiting academic clearance at ASU,” although it’s unknown if that was the reason behind his decision.
As a graduate transfer, Ibarra would’ve been eligible to play immediately for ASU in 2014. Prior to his reversal, he was being viewed as a player who could’ve come in and competed immediately for a starting job.
Ibarra was a three-star member of the Boilermakers’ 2012 recruiting class coming out of the JUCO ranks. Ibarra played in one game his first season, then started two of the seven games in which he played last season.
