Former Texas RB finds new home, stays in-state

Johnathan Gray

Running back Joe Bergeron was one of three members dismissed from the Texas Longhorns July 25th by head coach Charlie Strong . Three weeks after being dismissed from the University of Texas, Bergeron found a new home.

Bergeron traveled nearly four hours north to become a member of the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions. He practiced with his new team Saturday.

Prior to choosing Texas A&M-Commerce, Bergeron was “actively seeking his release from his scholarship.” By doing so, Bergeron was clearly looking to enroll at another university as quickly as possible, which he has done. Bergeron, a senior, would have to sit out this season if he wanted to transfer to another FBS program. Instead, Bergeron will be eligible to play for the Lions this fall since the school’s athletic programs are classified as NCAA Div. II participants.

During his three seasons at Texas, Bergeron ran the ball 272 times for 1,392 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Joe has NFL talent, IF he gets his head on straight. And that is a big IF.

Chip Brown looks nothing like his twitter picture.

Joe has his head on straight enough to play in the NFL, he just doesn’t have it on straight enough to play for Charlie Strong.

Wish him well. Too bad Mack Brown was such a politician rather than a real head coach with team rules to abide by. Texas teams under Brown were soft mentally and physically because Brown allowed did not demand anything more. He was too busy playing the CEO role and kissing the _sses of the good-ole-boy network members at Texas.

Such lazy articles on this site. At least get an actual picture of the player you’re talking about. The guy in the picture above is Malcom Brown, not Joe B.

Too bad Joe isn’t as interested in getting a degree as he is in the NFL. He may need that degree some day. Good luck Joe.
