Tulane suspends leading returning sacker for first half of opener

Royce LaFrance

We’re fast approaching the season opener, so that can only mean one thing: suspensions!!!

The latest to whip out the temporary ban hammer is Tulane, which announced that Royce LaFrance has been suspended for the first half of the Green Wave’s opener against Tulsa.  Head coach Curtis Johnson would only say that the half-game suspension was violating an unspecified team policy.

However, the Baton Rouge Advocate wrote that, per sources, “LaFrance was involved in a fight before the start of preseason drills.”

LaFrance second on the Green Wave last season in tackles for loss (10) and sacks (six). He’s the leading returning player in each of those categories.

Phil Steele named LaFrance to his first-team All-AAC preseason squad earlier this year.
