UofL’s DeVante Parker seeing foot specialist today

The next step in determining when -- or if -- Louisville will have its most potent offensive weapon this season is currently in the process of being taken.

According to Rick Bozich of WDRB-TV, DeVante Parker flew to Charlotte Sunday to be examined by Dr. Robert Anderson, a renowned orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle injuries. The wide receiver suffered an unspecified injury to his left foot during practice Friday evening.

Bozich reported that the injury is expected to keep Parker out of the Labor Day opener against Miami, but the examination by Dr. Anderson will determine exactly how long the star receiver will be sidelined.

“Anderson is the team doctor for the Carolina Panthers... [and] has treated New York Yankees star Derek Jeter as well as former Braves’ infielder Chipper Jones and NFL stars Jeremy Shockey, Plaxico Burress and Hakeem Nicks,” Bozich wrote.Last season, the 6-3, 211-pound Parker ended the year with 55 receptions for 885 yards and a school-record-tying 12 touchdowns. The last three years, Parker’s led the UofL in touchdown receptions. The last two, he’s led the team in both receptions and yards as well.

He’s widely regarded as one of the top receivers in the country entering 2014 after eschewing early entry into the NFL draft and returning for his senior season.
