Starting Rutgers WR ruled out of opener with injury

As Rutgers gets set for its first game as a member of the Big Ten, it’s doing so without one of its starters on the offensive side of the ball.

Over the weekend, head coach Kyle Flood announced that three additional players, including starting wide receiver Andre Patton, have been ruled out of Thursday night’s opener against Washington State. Patton is dealing with an unspecified upper-body injury.

Flood said that he’s uncertain when Patton will be able to return.

Last season, Patton had just three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. However, he earned the starting job on the strength of a solid summer camp.

In addition to Patton, No. 2 tight end Nick Arcidiacono (upper body) and backup offensive lineman Bryan Leoni (lower body) have been ruled out of the Wazzu game. Also, backup linebacker Myles Nash has been suspended for the opener due to violating unspecified team rules.
