Auburn’s official depth chart for the first game of the 2014 season (vs. Arkansas) has been released, but there are only a few points worth raising an eyebrow over.
It is probably unwise to read too much into depth charts, but quarterback Nick Marshall and cornerback Jonathan Mincy are each listed with the first team. Neither player will get the start for the defending SEC champions though, following off-field troubles during the offseason. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has said Marshall will play in the season opener. The head coach is not showing his cards with that decision, and it will likely be publicly unknown how it is handled until the game is underway. Marshall was cited for marijuana possession and so was Mincy.
At quarterback, Jeremy Johnson is listed second on the depth chart and is expected to get the start for the Tigers. How long until he is removed from the game in favor of Marshall remains a question. Joshua Holeey is listed behind Mincy on the defensive depth chart as well. It is also unconfirmed how long Mincy will have to sit out until being sent onto the field for Auburn.
