File this in the “Not A Good Development At All” folder.

Speculation has buzzing across some parts of Twitter over the past couple of days that Iowa State’s Jacob Gannon had quit the team or had involuntarily parted ways with the football program. While the latter wasn’t accurate, the former was as an ISU official confirmed to Bobby La Gesse of the Ames Tribune that the offensive lineman has left the Cyclones.

While no reason was given, Gannon did tell one member of the media that he was simply burned out by the game of football

The loss of Gannon is a significant one for the Cyclones’ offensive line.

In an injury-plagued 2013 season, Gannon started eight of the nine games in which he played. He started the season opener against North Dakota State. Each of the past two seasons, Gannon was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team.

With Gannon out, redshirt freshman Jake Campos will be expected to take over at right tackle.
