Okla. St.'s J.W. Walsh on sidelines, on crutches

It appears Oklahoma State will go with their backup quarterback for the remainder of Saturday’s game -- if not a lot longer.

Late in the first quarter of OSU’s game against Missouri State, starting quarterback J.W. Walsh went down with what appeared to be a lower-leg injury. After going to the locker room for X-rays, Walsh returned to the sidelines on crutches with a bag of ice wrapped around his right ankle. He’s not expected to return.

There is no word yet on the specific nature of the injury or the severity. Or what if any future game action Walsh may miss.

Head coach Mike Gundy is expected to address all of the questions after the game, which the Cowboys currently lead 17-6.

Prior to his injury, Walsh had completed five-of-nine passes for 30 yards. Walsh was replaced by Daxx Garman, who was edged out of the starting job during the course of a competition throughout the offseason and on into summer camp.
