Ohio State tumbles in coaches poll, but still ranked ahead of Hokies

According to the coaches voting in the Amway Coaches Poll, the top five teams in the nation remain the same as they were a week ago. After the top five though, it is a different story.

Florida State remains on top of te coaches poll with 51 first-place votes. Alabama is right behind the Seminoles with one first-place vote, followed by Oklahoma (three first-place votes) and Oregon (six first-place votes). Auburn rounds out the top five this week, as it did a week ago.

Georgia has moved up two spots with one first-place vote to sixth in the coaches poll. Baylor, Texas A&M, LSU and USC all moved up and complete the top ten this week. Texas A&M saw the biggest jump, moving up five spots this week. USC and Notre Dame (No. 11) each moved up four spots this week on the strength of solid victories in week two and as a result of other teams dropping in the coaches poll. UCLA dropped a spot following a second straight ugly nailbiter of a game, despite improving to 2-0. Michigan State tumbled seven spots down to 13th in the coaches poll after letting Oregon slip through their fingers in Eugene.

Ohio State took the biggest drop in the coaches poll this week. After losing at home to Virginia Tech Saturday night, the Buckeyes dropped 11 spots in the coaches poll down to 18th. Ironically, Virginia Tech is ranked 19th in the coaches poll, moving up 19 spots in the overall voting. Missouri is the other newcomer in the coaches poll this week, ranked 22nd in this week’s coaches poll following a win at Toledo.

After being blown out at home by BYU, Texas dropped out of the coaches poll after being ranked 25th last week.
