Report: Iowa’s Brandon Scherff undergoes knee surgery

One of the top offensive linemen in the country could be sidelined for a couple of weeks if one report comes to fruition.

According to KCRG-TV’s Scott Westerberg, Iowa’s Brandon Scherff underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a meniscus issue in his right knee. The offensive tackle suffered the injury in the Hawkeyes’ four-point win over Ball State last Saturday.

While the station reported that Scherff would be sidelined for 2-3 weeks, the player later stated that he is “not ruling out the Pitt game [Sept. 20] but is confident in being back for start of” Big Ten play Sept. 27 vs. Purdue. What seems to be not in doubt is that the tackle will miss this weekend’s game against Iowa State.

The school has yet to offer an update on Scherff’s status for the remainder of the month, although head coach Kirk Ferentz is expected to take part in a previously-scheduled conference call early this afternoon.

The senior was a consensus All-American entering the season and is viewed as a potential top-five pick in next year’s NFL draft.
