College football’s best pre-game show heading to college football’s best pre-game venue

It seems like a match made in tailgate heaven. College football’s preeminent pre-game show and college football’s preeminent pre-game scene were made for each other, but somehow they will unite for just the first time on Saturday. College GameDay is headed to the Grove.

The visit was clinched Saturday night when Ole Miss defeated Memphis 24-3, setting up a battle undefeated and third-ranked Alabama visiting undefeated and third-ranked Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. Equally important, the win kept GameDay out of Starkville, where undefeated and 12th-ranked Mississippi State hosts undefeated and sixth-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday. Ole Miss-Alabama will be televised at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

This game has been on ESPN’s radar since the summer, when Ole Miss’ early schedule made it apparent that both teams could make it through September unscathed.

“This is my 19th year on the show, and it seems like we’ve been talking about getting to Ole Miss for 12 or 13 years,” Kirk Herbstreit told SB Nation in August. “Like, since Eli Manning was a sophomore, we’ve been talking about wanting to get to the Grove. I’ve been there when we used to call Thursday night games with Mike Tirico, and did the Egg Bowl every Thanksgiving, so I’ve never really seen the Grove in all its glory, because that’s when school’s out. That by far stands out to me as a place we’ve gotta get.”

Ole Miss will be the 58th college campus visited by college football’s favorite traveling circus according to the always-reliable College GameDay Wiki page, and 13th SEC campus.

What’s the only SEC campus yet to receive the honor of hosting GameDay, you ask? That would be the one in Starkville, Mississippi.
