Melvin Gordon getting his yards, but No. 17 Wisconsin shut out through one half

Question: How does Melvin Gordon rush for 11 yards per carry and 112 yards in a half, but No. 17 Wisconsin still trail 10-0 through one half?

Answer: Tanner McEvoy, that’s how.

Badgers quarterback McEvoy completed only 4-of-10 passes for 24 yards - that’s 2.4 yards per throw - with an interception. That equates to a quarterback rating of 40.16. Joel Stave replaced McEvoy on Wisconsin’s final possession of the half.

Northwestern quarterback Trevor Simien threw for 133 yards and a five-yard touchdown pass to Dan Vitale with 3:38 to go before the half to give the Wildcats the lead. The scoring strike came after Simien found Miles Shuler for seven yards on 4th-and-14 from the 17.

Northwestern notched its field goal immediately after Godwin Igwebulke inside the Northwestern end zone on a 3rd-and-11.

Wisconsin receives the ball to open the second half.
