Treon Harris Era at Florida starts with suspension

Any thoughts about getting the Treon Harris era underway at Florida will have to be put on hold. According to multiple reports from the Florida Gators beat, Harris has been suspended by the team. We now know Harris was suspended due to an open investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a female student at Florida.

As is the usual course of action, Florida suspended him while the legal process plays out. There have been no charges filed against the Gators freshman quarterback.

Earlier in the day, Florida canceled its usual Monday press conference. One veteran member of the Florida beat, Dave Jones of Florida Today, said this was the first time he could recall a Monday press conference being called off in 20 years. Speculation immedioately turned to the thought of Florida cutting ties with head coach Will Muschamp, but a win on the road at Tennessee likely put that possibility on hold. Florida Athletics Director Jeremy Foley said before Muschamp’s job would be evaluated at the end of the season as well.

Team has been told Harris is suspended and team will be addressed at practice.

Gainesville source has confirmed that #Gators quarterback Treon Harris is being investigated in a legal matter. — David Jones (@DaveJonesUFbeat) October 6, 2014

Harris gave the Florida offense a bit of a spark this weekend at Tennessee. After being inserted to replace Jeff Driskel at quarterback, the Gators offense managed to scrap together 10 points to leave with a 10-9 victory in SEC East play. Harris quickly became the center of attention for Florida and the hopes of seeing some changes on offense. That apparently will not be the case for now. The question becomes how long will Florida have to wait before Harris potentially returns to the team?

Florida hosts LSU this Saturday night.

UPDATE (1:12pm): A statement released by the University of Florida states Harris is being invetsigated for an alleged sexual assault of a female.
