Reports: QB, frosh D-lineman throw down on each other

And the troubles surrounding the Florida football program both on and off the football field reportedly continues unabated on the latter front.

According to both the Gainesville Sun and GatorBait.net, a pair of Gator teammates -- quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg and defensive lineman Gerald Willis -- got into a fight with each other outside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Monday evening. The 247Sports website reports that no charges will be filed as both of the players involved withdrew their complaints against the other.

“Looks like a fight between two individuals, both are listed as suspect, both are listed as victims, so they hit each other,” Major Brad Barber of the University of Florida Police Department told the site. “They were involved in a fight [Monday] evening. It appears that both have withdrawn the complaint. There will be no charges.”

It’s unclear what preceded the physical altercation. It’s also unclear what if any punishment the pair could face from the football program.

Because of Treon Harris‘s off-field predicament and an injury to Will Grier, Mornhinweg would likely serve as Jeff Driskel‘s backup for Saturday’s game against LSU.

Willis was a four-star member of UF’s 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 6 strongside end in the country. This incident could have a deeper impact on the lineman than the quarterback as GatorBait writes that Willis “missed Florida’s games against Kentucky and Alabama for disciplinary reasons, according to a source.”

Prior to the discipline issues, Willis had appeared in two games.
