Clemson QB Watson to have hand surgery, could miss 5 weeks

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson injured his hand in Clemson’s victory over Louisville on Saturday in ACC play. The Tigers quarterback will have surgery to repair his hand on Monday. It is expected Watson will miss the next five weeks.

As noted in our game recap yesterday, the schedule ahead of Clemson may suggest we have not seen the Watson this season. While the timeline would certainly allow for Watson to play in a postseason bowl game, there may also be a chance he returns to the field before the end of the regular season.

Clemson still has half a season to play, and that includes a bye week. If Watson missed the next five weeks, he could return to the field for Clemson’s final two games of the season at home against Georgia State and rival South Carolina.

While Watson is out, Clemson will once again turn to Cole Stoudt to lead the offense. In six games this season, Stoudt has completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 649 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Stoudt was replaced by Watson in the middle of the Florida State game earlier this season.
