Cal loses top tackler, leading picker to season-ending injury

For the second time in as many seasons, Griffin Piatt has seen his season cut short because of injury.

A Cal spokesperson confirmed to ESPN.com‘s Kyle Bonagura that the safety will miss the remainder of the 2014 season due to an unspecified knee injury. Piatt suffered the injury in the Golden Bears’ Week 7 loss to Washington .

In 2013, Piatt tore an ACL during spring practice and did not play at all last season. The most recent injury is to the same knee.

Through the first six games this season, Piatt leads the team in tackles (32.5), interceptions (three), passes broken up (six) and passes defensed (nine). His 25 solo tackles are second on the team to Cameron Walker‘s 26.
