Trevone Boykin’s wrist IS injured... but the TCU QB will play anyway

It appears there was at least a morsel of validity to what turned out to be an erroneous report earlier this week.

Tuesday, it was reported that TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin had suffered a significant injury to his left (non-throwing) wrist and would miss 4-6 weeks. That day, though, Boykin was practicing as head coach Gary Patterson vehemently denied the veracity of the report.

After practice Wednesday, however, Patterson did acknowledge that Boykin injured his wrist in the wild 61-58 loss to Baylor this past weekend. The coach, though, stated that his starter will play in this Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State.

“It will be where he can manage it and do the things he needs to do,” Patterson said in confirming Boykin’s availability. “He’s a tough kid.”

Through the first half of the season, Boykin is one of the most improved players in the country. In 2013, Boykin tossed as many interceptions (seven) as touchdowns (seven); through five games this season, he has 11 scoring touches and just two interceptions. He’s tossing a pick every 154 pass attempts this season compared to one every 25 attempts in 2013.

Should Boykin suffer a setback between now and Saturday, Texas A&M transfer Matt Joeckel would get the start against the Cowboys.
