Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight has had quite an eventful first half of play against Kansas State. Knight was taken out of the game in the first quarter with looked to be an arm or shoulder injury. After he returned, he showed a short memory by storming right back after making a costly error early in the second quarter. However, Kansas State leads Oklahoma 21-17 at the end fo the first half.
Oklahoma actually went on to score the first points of the game after Knight had left the game to receive some medical attention. As Knight was jogging back to the sideline, Oklahoma was celebrating a touchdown run by Samaje Prine for the 7-0 lead. The lead did not last for very long, as Kansas State answered on the ensuing possession. In fact, the game was tied just 57 seconds later after Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters caught tight end Glenn Gronkowski moving downfield with Oklahoma’s coverage totally broken. Waters tossed a soft one to Gronkowski, and the help of one blocker the younger brother of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski took care of the rest with a 62-yard touchdown.What a TD by @ggronko !!! Kansas State would later take the lead early in the second quarter after pinning Oklahoma down against its own end zone. Knight was picked off by Danzel McDaniel and McDaniel returned the interception five yards for a touchdown and Kansas State’s first lead of the afternoon. Knight stormed back though. First came a 22-yard completion to Blake Bell, a career-long reception for the former Sooners quarterback. Second, a 47-yard touchdown pass to Sterling Shepard to tie things up.
Kansas State had another answer for the Sooners though with a nearly flawless drive ending with a second touchdown pass from Waters.Tyler Tyler Lockett was on the receiving end of this one, from nine yards out. The score gave Kansas State a second lead, 21-14.
