Florida State dismisses LB Ukeme Eligwe for rules violation

Florida State linebacker Ukeme Eligwe has been removed from the football program for a violation of team rules. The details of the violation are unknown, but head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed the dismissal was for a violation of team rules when asked if this was Eligwe’s first strike.

Eligwe, a redshirt sophomore, has played in two games this season, recording two tackles in the process. Last season Eligwe recorded 28 tackles as a freshman including 18 solo tackles and two sacks. The former four-star recruit in the Class of 2012, according to Rivals, was the second highest-rated outside linebacker in the country out of high school. He was expected to be a potential starter for Florida State with the ability to play middle linebacker or defense end, but a foot injury has kept him behind for much of the season.

The removal of Eligwe from the program adds a slight bit more concern about the depth of Florida State’s defense, which has been vulnerable at times this season. Ultimately the loss may not have a tremendous impact on this season’s success, but it could leave some room for improvement moving forward. Fortunately for Fisher, recruiting at Florida State is not typically the most difficult when it comes to finding quality talent.

As for Eligwe, it is difficult to suggest what the future has for him without knowing more information.
