Jameis Winston’s attorney requests for hearing delay

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is scheduled to have his disciplinary hearing for potential violations of the university code of conduct set for the week of November 17, but his attorney is asking for a delay in that hearing. Winston’s attorney, David Cornwell, submitted a formal request for an extension in order to prepare for the hearing on Thursday. It is unknown how much time was requested for the extension.

Winston is up against four possible violations of the university’s code of conduct linked to his involvement in an alleged sexual assault from two years ago. Winston was not charged with any crimes by authorities, but still faces possible punishment from the university.

The extension request was not taken too kindly by John Clune, an attorney representing the accuser. Per an ESPN.com report, Clune suggested Winston’s attorney “obviously doesn’t want his client to ever do this hearing.”

The hearing is currently scheduled to fall between Florida State’s games against Miami and Boston College. As of now, Winston remains eligible to play for the Seminoles as the defending national and ACC champions look to keep its unbeaten streak alive en route to a spot in the ACC Championship Game and potentially the College Football Playoff.

It was previously reported retired Florida Supreme Court chief justice Major Harding has been selected to preside over the hearing.
